European species
Micropeza kawalli Gimmerthal, 1847
Nomenclature
-
Subfamily: MicropezinaeGenus: Micropeza
SUMMARY
Description: Black. Lower face and cheeks rusty yellow, forehead and vertex black-brown (see original description for more)
Gimmerthal says nothing about rings on the hind femur, merely stating that they are light-brown. Thus M. kawalli would be one of only two European species with no rings (cf M. angustipennis). Not a reliable feature.
The other feature distinguishing this from other Micropeza is the head colour, black/brown above (frons) and rusty-yellow below (genae & face)
Hennig, 1936: Black species: Antenna completely or partially yellow: Only the root elements yellow (by which he presumably means the pedicel and scape) vs Antennae all yellow (in which case it would be M. cingulata)
Distribution
Europe: Countries (published), online at Fauna Europaea, Occurrences at GBIF
Location: Gimmerthal's location is given as "Curland" which is presumably an old German spelling of "Courland", a region of Latvia.
