European species
Chamaepsila ephippium (Zetterstedt, 1847)
Nomenclature
-
Tribe: PsiliniGenus: Chamaepsila
SUMMARY
Stuke, 2006: Of four species, only historical evidence is available: Chamaepsila ephippium (ZETTERSTEDT, 1847) [lost since the late 1930s], Chamaepsila limbatella (ZETTERSTEDT, 1847) [lost since the 1930s], Chamaepsila quadrilineata (STROBL, 1898) [last proof 1896] and Megamerina dolium (FABRICIUS, 1805) [last proof 1904]. In general, this situation will reflect detection deficits and not the actual extinction of species.
Material: 1M (29.VIII., Hannover, Bothfeld, leg. Füge, coll. NLHD).
Chamaepsila ephippium was recently detected by SHATALKIN (2000) for Germany for the first time. Remarkably, the second proof presented here also refers to a historical proof that Chamaepsila ephippium has been considered lost in Lower Saxony (and thus in Germany) since the 1930s at the latest.
